How Affiliate Links and Commercial Relationships Work
Some links on criminalcourtrecord.org/ may be affiliate links. If you click an eligible commercial link and purchase a service, we may receive compensation.
What Compensation Means
A third-party provider may pay us a commission when a visitor purchases or subscribes after following an eligible link.
What It Does Not Mean
Compensation does not make a commercial service an official court source or government-approved service.
How Affiliate Links Work
- We may link to a private background-check or public-record service.
- The link may contain an identifier showing that the visitor came from criminalcourtrecord.org/.
- If the visitor completes an eligible purchase, the provider may compensate us.
- The provider controls its own pricing, terms, refund rules, data coverage, and privacy practices.
Official Source vs. Commercial Service
| Official source | Commercial service |
|---|---|
| Operated by a court, clerk, judiciary, or government agency | Operated by a private company |
| May be authoritative for the underlying record | May aggregate information from multiple sources |
| Subject to the agency’s own public-access rules | Subject to the company’s terms, pricing, and privacy policy |
| Not an affiliate relationship simply because we link to it | May generate compensation if an affiliate relationship exists |
Where We Aim to Place Disclosures
A standalone disclosure page is not always enough. When a material affiliate relationship applies to a recommendation or commercial link, we aim to place a clear disclosure close enough to the relevant content for the reader to understand that compensation may be involved.
Editorial Independence
Affiliate compensation may influence which commercial services we can monetize or feature. It does not remove our responsibility to distinguish commercial links from official court and government resources.
