Polk County Criminal Records Search: Cases, Charges, Court Dockets & Arrest Records
To search Polk County criminal records, use the Clerk’s ShowCase criminal and traffic case portal. You can look up public felony, misdemeanor, criminal traffic, ordinance and related case information by name, case number or other available identifiers.
The Polk County Clerk now operates separate systems for criminal and civil cases. Criminal case records are searched through ShowCase, while the older Polk Records Online (PRO) portal directs users to the new criminal search. For arrest and jail booking information, use the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. For statewide Florida criminal history, use FDLE.
Which Polk County Criminal Records Source Should You Use?
A criminal case docket, a jail booking, a certified judgment and a statewide background check are different records. Choose the correct source before entering a name.
Felony or Misdemeanor
Search ShowCase for a Polk County criminal case, charges, court dates, disposition and docket activity.
Jail and Arrest Inquiry
Use the Sheriff’s jail search for available inmate, booking and arrest information.
Certified Disposition
Request an official court document through the Clerk’s records-request process.
Florida Criminal History
FDLE provides Florida criminal history record searches under its separate request and fee rules.
Upcoming Court Dates
Use the Clerk’s court-date tools and Florida e-Notify to track scheduled hearings.
Federal Criminal Case
Use PACER for federal prosecutions, which are not stored in the Clerk’s ShowCase system.

How to Search Polk County Criminal Records Using ShowCase
The Polk County Clerk’s criminal and traffic case portal uses ShowCase. It supports public searching without a registered account. Access to protected documents varies according to Florida court-record access rules and the user’s authorized role.
- 1
Open the current official criminal search
Begin with the Clerk’s Criminal & Traffic Records page. Choose Public Search or Login. Anonymous searching is allowed for public cases, so a registration is not required for basic public access.
- 2
Choose Case Search or Citation Search
ShowCase provides separate search sections. Use Case Search for a criminal court case or defendant lookup. Use Citation Search when you have a citation number.
- 3
Use the case number first if known
Enter the complete case number in the Case Number field. A known case number is more reliable than searching a common name across multiple years.
- 4
Otherwise search by last and first name
ShowCase provides Last Name, First Name and Middle Name fields. Enter the known legal name. Add other permitted information only where necessary to narrow the results.
- 5
Use ShowCase’s actual search filters
Depending on available information, ShowCase also offers fields for citation number, incident number, arrest date, Sheriff’s number, booking number, judge, status, court type and date ranges. Choose Exact, SoundEx or Starts With where appropriate.
- 6
Select the appropriate criminal court type
Use the Court Type control to narrow the results to the relevant criminal category. Polk felony prosecutions generally belong to circuit court; qualifying misdemeanors and criminal traffic matters generally belong to county court.
- 7
Open and verify the matching case
Compare the case number, name, filing date, court category, judge, parties and status. ShowCase can return multiple cases involving similarly named people, so do not assume identity from a name match.
- 8
Read the Dockets, Court Events and Charges tabs
Open the case details. The system includes tabs such as Dockets, Court Events, Parties, Charges, Linked Cases, Sentences, Arrests & Bonds and Fees where applicable. The tabs available to you depend on the case and permitted access.
- 9
Request review of a restricted online image when offered
Some documents have a View on Request option. Submit the request to have the document inspected before public viewing. If you provide an email address, the system can notify you when the document becomes viewable; otherwise, check again later.
- 10
Request certification if needed
For a certified judgment, disposition or other court record, save the case number and use the Clerk’s records-request procedure. Do not assume a printed ShowCase screen is an officially certified court document.
How to Understand a Polk County Criminal Case Docket
ShowCase organizes criminal case information into categories that answer different questions. Checking the entire sequence of events matters more than finding a single charge or arrest reference.
| ShowCase Section | What it helps you find | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Dockets | Entries showing procedural actions and filed documents | Later orders may change an earlier entry |
| Court Events | Scheduled or completed court events | A hearing entry is not necessarily a final disposition |
| Parties | Persons and entities recorded in the case | Verify identity and role carefully |
| Charges | Criminal counts and associated case information | Individual counts may have different outcomes |
| Sentences | Sentencing-related information where recorded | Review associated judgment and subsequent orders |
| Arrests & Bonds | Available arrest and bond information linked to the case | Arrest and bond entries do not establish guilt |
| Fees | Court payments, fines and assessed financial obligations | Current balance may differ from original assessments |
A defendant charged with an offense has not necessarily been convicted of that offense. The case may contain amended charges, dismissals, pleas, acquittals, judgments, withheld adjudication, sentencing orders or appeals. Review each charge and its final result.
Felony, Misdemeanor and Criminal Traffic Records in Polk County
Polk County is part of Florida’s Tenth Judicial Circuit, which also serves Hardee and Highlands counties. The Polk Clerk’s criminal portal covers felony, misdemeanor, traffic, municipal ordinance and county ordinance cases.
Circuit Court Felony Records
Felony criminal proceedings are generally handled in circuit court. ShowCase provides available charges, docket activity, court events, judgment information and related case records.
Polk’s Tenth Judicial Circuit publishes separate felony courtroom information for divisions such as F1 through F9 and other assigned sections.
County Criminal and Misdemeanors
Qualifying misdemeanors, criminal traffic offenses and ordinance matters generally follow county-court procedures. Check the case category in ShowCase rather than treating every traffic citation as a criminal prosecution.
The Tenth Judicial Circuit provides misdemeanor court links for arraignments, pretrial conferences, motion hearings and other proceedings where applicable.
Polk County Arrest Records and Sheriff’s Jail Inquiry
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Jail Inquiry is a separate search for jail and booking information. The Sheriff expressly cautions that an arrest does not mean a person has been convicted and that case dispositions must come from the Clerk.
- 1
Open the Sheriff’s official jail search
Visit Polk County Jail Inquiry. Read the disclaimer before conducting a name or booking search.
- 2
Select Name Search, Booking Date or AKA Search
The Sheriff’s service provides these search paths. Use the one best matched to your information.
- 3
Enter the last name and refine the results
Use the required Last Name field. Add First Name where known, or apply the Current inmates only option if you need present custody information rather than an older record.
- 4
Follow the Sheriff’s special apostrophe rule
The Sheriff states that a last name containing an apostrophe must be entered with a double apostrophe. For example, search O”Keefe rather than O’Keefe.
- 5
Narrow overly broad results
The Sheriff’s system limits displayed search results to the first 1,000 matches. Refine the name, booking date, or available year filters if too many results appear.
- 6
Verify the court case separately
If you need the prosecution’s actual charges, later court activity or disposition, use the Polk Clerk’s ShowCase system. Booking information is not proof of conviction.

What to Do When Polk County Criminal Records Do Not Appear
A missing result does not prove that no record exists. Use the information below to determine whether the problem is a search setting, different records custodian, restricted document, or the wrong court system.
| Problem | Likely reason | Practical next action |
|---|---|---|
| PRO does not show criminal records | Criminal search moved to ShowCase | Use the Clerk’s Criminal & Traffic Records page |
| Name search returns nothing | Spelling, exact-match or date/court filters | Try SoundEx or Starts With, and remove unnecessary filters |
| Too many people with the same name | Common surname or broad search | Use case number, incident number, filing dates or other permitted identifiers |
| Document marked View on Request | Requires review before release | Request inspection through the portal and monitor the document status |
| Sheriff booking exists but no court docket | Case may not be filed or may be indexed differently | Check updated Clerk records or contact the proper agency |
| Document not publicly visible | Privacy restriction, sealing, expungement or document access limitation | Contact the Clerk; do not attempt unauthorized access |
| Federal case missing | Federal cases are maintained separately | Search PACER |
| Older case not found | Retention, historic indexing or unavailable images | Submit a specific records request through PIER |
Older Polk Court Records
The Clerk’s records FAQs explain that the availability of older case information varies by court type. Some case information extends back to the mid-1960s, but historical document images may no longer be available online because of retention rules.
For older cases, include the approximate year, name, court category, any known case number, and the document required when contacting the Clerk or submitting a PIER request.
Sealed and Expunged Polk County Criminal Records
Some Florida criminal records may qualify for sealing or expungement, depending on statutory eligibility. Polk’s Clerk directs qualifying applicants to FDLE, which administers the certificate-of-eligibility process where applicable.
- Locate your available criminal case and final disposition information.
- Review the Polk Clerk’s Expunging a Record guidance.
- Check FDLE’s current requirements and required application documents.
- Complete the applicable eligibility and court filing process.
- Confirm the effect of any issued order and whether further actions are required.
Additional Official Polk County Criminal Records Resources
Florida Appeals
Use Florida’s Appellate Case Information System for public appeals, opinions, orders and case activity before Florida appellate courts.
FDLE Sexual Offender Search
Search the official Florida registry, including available county-specific filters. A registry result is not a full criminal-history check.
Federal Criminal Dockets
Search federal criminal cases through PACER, rather than the Polk County state-court database.
Criminal Court Records vs. Recorded Official Records
Polk’s Official Records system is used for recorded instruments such as deeds, mortgages and other qualifying recorded documents. Its public index is not a substitute for the criminal case docket in ShowCase.
The Clerk’s public-record pages deliberately separate court-case searching from recorded-instrument searching. Choose the criminal case portal when you need felony, misdemeanor, criminal traffic, charges or court proceedings.
Use Criminal Records Carefully: Identity, Convictions and FCRA Rules
A public court search does not confirm that every result belongs to the intended person. A criminal arrest does not establish guilt, and a filed charge does not establish conviction. Look at the final disposition of each charge and any subsequent orders.
CriminalCourtRecord.org is not a consumer reporting agency and does not supply consumer reports for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated eligibility decisions. Employers and other regulated users should follow applicable federal and Florida laws and use appropriately authorized screening processes.
