Polk County Criminal Records Search: Cases, Charges, Court Dockets & Arrest Records

To search Polk County criminal records, use the Clerk’s ShowCase criminal and traffic case portal. You can look up public felony, misdemeanor, criminal traffic, ordinance and related case information by name, case number or other available identifiers.

The Polk County Clerk now operates separate systems for criminal and civil cases. Criminal case records are searched through ShowCase, while the older Polk Records Online (PRO) portal directs users to the new criminal search. For arrest and jail booking information, use the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. For statewide Florida criminal history, use FDLE.

We provide search instructions, not a government records database or background-check service.
Important 2026 search change: Do not use the old Polk Records Online (PRO) portal as the primary criminal case database. The Clerk’s PRO homepage states that criminal records have moved. Use Criminal & Traffic Records and then select Public Search or Login.

Which Polk County Criminal Records Source Should You Use?

A criminal case docket, a jail booking, a certified judgment and a statewide background check are different records. Choose the correct source before entering a name.

How to Understand a Polk County Criminal Case Docket

ShowCase organizes criminal case information into categories that answer different questions. Checking the entire sequence of events matters more than finding a single charge or arrest reference.

DocketsEntries showing procedural actions and filed documentsLater orders may change an earlier entry
Court EventsScheduled or completed court eventsA hearing entry is not necessarily a final disposition

A defendant charged with an offense has not necessarily been convicted of that offense. The case may contain amended charges, dismissals, pleas, acquittals, judgments, withheld adjudication, sentencing orders or appeals. Review each charge and its final result.

Circuit Court Felony Records

Polk County Arrest Records and Sheriff’s Jail Inquiry

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Jail Inquiry is a separate search for jail and booking information. The Sheriff expressly cautions that an arrest does not mean a person has been convicted and that case dispositions must come from the Clerk.

  1. 1

Open the Sheriff’s official jail search

Visit Polk County Jail Inquiry. Read the disclaimer before conducting a name or booking search.

  2. 2

Select Name Search, Booking Date or AKA Search

The Sheriff’s service provides these search paths. Use the one best matched to your information.

  3. 3

Enter the last name and refine the results

Use the required Last Name field. Add First Name where known, or apply the Current inmates only option if you need present custody information rather than an older record.

  4. 4

Follow the Sheriff’s special apostrophe rule

The Sheriff states that a last name containing an apostrophe must be entered with a double apostrophe. For example, search O”Keefe rather than O’Keefe.

  5. 5

    Narrow overly broad results

The Sheriff’s system limits displayed search results to the first 1,000 matches. Refine the name, booking date, or available year filters if too many results appear.

  6. 6

    Verify the court case separately

If you need the prosecution’s actual charges, later court activity or disposition, use the Polk Clerk’s ShowCase system. Booking information is not proof of conviction.

Official limitation: Sheriff’s jail information can change quickly and may contain errors or updates. It is for public information, not a substitute for an official criminal court record or legal determination.

How to Get Certified Polk County Criminal Court Records

If you need a certified criminal disposition, sentencing order, judgment or court document, the Polk County Clerk’s records-request system is the relevant route.

Do not use the wrong certification service: Polk’s e-Certification option currently covers Official Records such as recorded instruments, but the Clerk expressly says that electronic certification is not currently available for court records. For certified criminal court records, use the Clerk’s request-by-mail procedure through PIER.
  1. 1

Find the criminal case in ShowCase

Write down the complete case number, case type, defendant name and exact document you need, such as judgment, disposition or sentencing order.

  2. 2

Open the Clerk’s Records Requests page

Go to Official Records Requests and select the public records request option.

  3. 3

    Enter PIER

The Clerk uses PIER — Public Information & Electronic Records for formal records requests. New users create an account; returning users log in.

  4. 4

    Describe the document precisely

Provide the case number, document type, and whether you need a certified copy. Request only necessary documents to avoid unnecessary charges.

  5. 5

    Keep the request tracking number

PIER provides a tracking number. The Clerk contacts the requester about applicable fees, clarification and processing.

  6. 6

    Pay after receiving the amount

The Clerk’s published process involves processing the request, contacting you for payment and mailing the certified documents after payment.

  7. 7

Confirm acceptance by the receiving organization

If you need a document for immigration, licensing or court proceedings, confirm whether the receiving institution requires certified paper copies or another format.

The Clerk’s PIER FAQ states that copy requests are handled in order received and that staff should contact the requester within its published three-business-day initial-response window for questions or applicable fees. This is not a guarantee that a certified record will be completed within three days.

What to Do When Polk County Criminal Records Do Not Appear

A missing result does not prove that no record exists. Use the information below to determine whether the problem is a search setting, different records custodian, restricted document, or the wrong court system.

Older Polk Court Records

The Clerk’s records FAQs explain that the availability of older case information varies by court type. Some case information extends back to the mid-1960s, but historical document images may no longer be available online because of retention rules.

For older cases, include the approximate year, name, court category, any known case number, and the document required when contacting the Clerk or submitting a PIER request.

Sealed and Expunged Polk County Criminal Records

Some Florida criminal records may qualify for sealing or expungement, depending on statutory eligibility. Polk’s Clerk directs qualifying applicants to FDLE, which administers the certificate-of-eligibility process where applicable.

  1. Locate your available criminal case and final disposition information.
  2. Review the Polk Clerk’s Expunging a Record guidance.
  3. Check FDLE’s current requirements and required application documents.
  4. Complete the applicable eligibility and court filing process.
  5. Confirm the effect of any issued order and whether further actions are required.
Important distinction: Sealing, expungement, restricted access and public-record availability are not interchangeable concepts. A document missing from ShowCase may be restricted for several reasons. The absence of an online result alone does not establish that a record was expunged.

Criminal Court Records vs. Recorded Official Records

Polk’s Official Records system is used for recorded instruments such as deeds, mortgages and other qualifying recorded documents. Its public index is not a substitute for the criminal case docket in ShowCase.

The Clerk’s public-record pages deliberately separate court-case searching from recorded-instrument searching. Choose the criminal case portal when you need felony, misdemeanor, criminal traffic, charges or court proceedings.

Use Criminal Records Carefully: Identity, Convictions and FCRA Rules

A public court search does not confirm that every result belongs to the intended person. A criminal arrest does not establish guilt, and a filed charge does not establish conviction. Look at the final disposition of each charge and any subsequent orders.

CriminalCourtRecord.org is not a consumer reporting agency and does not supply consumer reports for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or other FCRA-regulated eligibility decisions. Employers and other regulated users should follow applicable federal and Florida laws and use appropriately authorized screening processes.
