St. Clair County Criminal Records Search: Court Cases, Dockets, Arrests and Public Records

To search St. Clair County criminal records, first identify which state handled the case. There are counties named St. Clair in Illinois, Michigan, Alabama and Missouri. Each maintains criminal court records under its own judicial system, and a search in one state will not locate a case filed in another.

This guide provides official court-search links for all four St. Clair counties, step-by-step instructions, county clerk contact details, certified-copy procedures, background-check options and explanations of why certain criminal records may not appear online.

Illinois · Belleville Michigan · Port Huron Alabama · Ashville / Pell City Missouri · Osceola Official government resources
Independent website: CriminalCourtRecord.org is not affiliated with any St. Clair County court, circuit clerk, sheriff, state police agency or government department. This article explains public records access. It does not provide official criminal-history checks, consumer reports or legal advice.

Select Your St. Clair County Before Searching

The four counties share a name but use different court-search websites. Choose the state corresponding to the location where criminal charges were filed—not necessarily the person’s current residence.

St. Clair County, Illinois Criminal Records Search — Belleville

For St. Clair County, Illinois, the official record custodian is the St. Clair County Circuit Clerk. The county belongs to Illinois’ 20th Judicial Circuit, and the Clerk maintains criminal and civil circuit court records.

Official starting point: St. Clair County Circuit Clerk — Court Tools. The page includes Case Search (Criminal and Civil) and Court Dockets.

How to Search Illinois St. Clair County Criminal Cases

  1. 1

Open the Circuit Clerk’s Court Tools page

Go to the county’s official court tools page and choose Case Search (Criminal and Civil).

  2. 2

Use the county’s linked case-search service

Follow the search instructions displayed by the Clerk’s linked system. Enter the known case number or search by party name where supported.

  3. 3

    Identify the correct criminal case

Compare the full case number, filing year, parties, case category and available court dates. Do not assume two people with the same name are the same person.

  4. 4

Check the docket and scheduled hearings

Return to the Clerk’s Court Tools page and select Court Dockets. The linked docket service may use a separate interface from basic case searching.

  5. 5

Request the final judgment if needed

For a certified disposition, sentence or court order, use the Clerk’s copy-request system rather than relying only on the online case summary.

Illinois Criminal Docket Subscriptions

The St. Clair County Circuit Clerk also identifies Clericus Magnus as a service for subscribing to electronic court-file access. This is separate from simply checking basic public case information.

The Clerk lists 1-866-511-2892 and multicourt@janojustice.com for registration assistance with that service. Check the subscription’s current terms and fees before enrolling.

Illinois Certified Criminal Court Copies

For certified criminal court records, the Clerk’s official request form asks for the case year, type, number, parties, whether certification is needed, and the specific documents requested.

The Clerk’s published fee schedule lists $6 for certification, $2 for the first copied page, $0.50 per additional page from pages 2 through 20, and $0.25 per page thereafter. Other charges can apply depending on the document or service.

St. Clair County, Michigan Criminal Records Search — Port Huron

Michigan’s St. Clair County uses two important criminal trial court routes: the 31st Circuit Court for felony matters and the 72nd District Court for misdemeanors, traffic matters and certain preliminary criminal proceedings.

Some matters may begin at district court before proceeding to circuit court, so a person researching an entire felony case may need to examine both court systems.

Felony cases

31st Circuit Court

Handles felony criminal proceedings, criminal matters within circuit jurisdiction and appeals from lower courts.

31st Circuit Court →

Misdemeanor / traffic

72nd District Court

Handles misdemeanor prosecutions, traffic violations, ordinance matters and other district court cases.

72nd District Court →

Visit the official county court portal and locate Court Schedules and Case Records Search.

The Michigan court inquiry service requires agreement to its terms. The information shown online is not a substitute for the official court file.

The Michigan court website cautions that the public search excludes nonpublic information. A missing online record does not establish that no criminal proceeding ever existed.

St. Clair County, Alabama Criminal Records Search — Ashville and Pell City

Alabama’s St. Clair County belongs to the 30th Judicial Circuit. The Circuit Clerk’s office maintains records of Circuit and District Court proceedings, including criminal, traffic, civil, juvenile and warrant matters.

The Clerk refers public users to Alabama’s Just One Look service for fee-based access to available state trial court case information.

Alabama is different: Do not assume every St. Clair County court search is free. Alabama’s official Just One Look system publishes a fee for case-number and name searches.

Open the local 30th Judicial Circuit website

Visit stclair.alacourt.gov and choose the appropriate Circuit Clerk department or record information.

  4. 4

    Review pricing before paying

The official access page lists $9.99 for a name search with one case detail included, or $9.99 for a case-number search. Additional case details or document images can cost extra.

  5. 5

    Check the actual court history

Inspect available parties, case activity, court settings, rulings and disposition information. A pending charge is not proof of a conviction.

  6. 6

Contact the Circuit Clerk for certified copies

Ask which office handles the case file, whether the requested document is public, and what fees apply for copies and certification.

How to Get Certified St. Clair County Criminal Court Records

Certified criminal court documents are issued by the court or records custodian that maintains the original case. A statewide background-check result or online docket screenshot is not automatically a certified judgment.

  1. 1

Identify the correct state and court

Determine whether the case was filed in Illinois, Michigan, Alabama or Missouri. If Michigan, distinguish the 31st Circuit from the 72nd District Court.

  2. 2

    Find the case number

Use the official public court system and record the case number, filing date, case category and court location.

  3. 3

    Select the exact document

Identify whether you need a judgment of conviction, dismissal order, sentencing order, certified register of actions, docket sheet or another filed court record.

  4. 4

    Contact the appropriate clerk

Use the county-specific records office identified in this article. Ask if the document can be requested online, by mail or in person.

  5. 5

    Confirm applicable fees

Copy fees, certification fees, payment-processing charges and mailing costs depend on the state, court and document.

  6. 6

    Confirm the required format

If you need the record for immigration, licensing, a legal proceeding or another formal purpose, check whether the receiving organization accepts electronic certification or requires a certified paper copy.

St. Clair County Criminal Records vs. State Background Checks

County court search systems show case information from a particular court. A state criminal-history check searches information maintained by that state’s authorized criminal-history repository. Those two products can overlap, but they are not equivalent.

StateOfficial criminal-history agencyPublished information
Illinois Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification CHIRP supports authorized name-based inquiry procedures. Individuals may use the Illinois State Police Access and Review fingerprint process for their own criminal history.
Michigan Michigan State Police ICHAT Public name-based criminal-history search costs $10. It excludes confidential information and several categories, including federal and out-of-state records.
Alabama Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Personal criminal-history review requires an application, fingerprints, identification and a $25 payment. Its separate ABC system is restricted to qualifying employers.
Missouri Missouri State Highway Patrol MACHS Public name-based checks cost $16 plus an online convenience fee. Fingerprint-based checks follow separate eligibility and fee procedures.

St. Clair County Arrest, Booking and Jail Records

An arrest or jail booking may be maintained by the county sheriff, a municipal police department or another law-enforcement agency. These records are separate from a criminal court case’s final disposition.

Federal case not found State court systems do not search federal PACER cases Use the PACER Case Locator

Are Sealed, Expunged or Juvenile Records Public?

Records may be restricted by statute, court rule or judicial order. Illinois, Michigan, Alabama and Missouri have different rules and procedures for sealing, expungement, set-aside orders and juvenile confidentiality.

A record not appearing in an online search does not establish that it was legally expunged. If you are researching your own record, contact the appropriate court or state agency about its correction and relief procedures.

Federal Criminal Court Cases Involving St. Clair County

Cases prosecuted under federal criminal law are searched in the federal judiciary’s PACER system, rather than the state court portal used by the relevant St. Clair County.

  1. Open PACER Find a Case.
  2. If you know the federal district where the case was filed, choose that court.
  3. If you do not know the federal court, use the PACER Case Locator to search the national federal index.
  4. Review available case identifiers, parties and docket details.
  5. Check document charges and access restrictions before retrieving filings.

PACER may charge for searches and documents. Federal court cases do not automatically appear in Illinois, Michigan, Alabama or Missouri county court search results.

Responsible Use of St. Clair County Criminal Public Records

Criminal case information can affect employment, housing, licensing, immigration, reputation and other consequential matters. Public access does not mean the information is current, complete or correctly attributable to an individual with a matching name.

  • An arrest is not proof of guilt.
  • A filed charge is not proof of conviction.
  • A dismissed count may coexist with a different disposition on another count.
  • A case marked closed does not, by itself, explain the outcome.
  • State and county search results may omit restricted, older or out-of-jurisdiction records.
  • Certified documents must come from the responsible court or authorized records custodian.
