Las Vegas Criminal Records Search: Cases & Public Records

To search Las Vegas criminal records for free, begin with the official court where the case was filed. Use Las Vegas Municipal Court for qualifying city misdemeanors, Las Vegas Justice Court for township criminal proceedings, or the Eighth Judicial District Court for felony and gross-misdemeanor cases.

If you need a police criminal-history report instead of a court docket, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department provides a separate local background-check service. Las Vegas City Jail and Clark County Detention Center also maintain different inmate searches.

Important Las Vegas distinction: The Las Vegas Strip and many nearby visitor areas are in unincorporated Clark County, not within Las Vegas city limits. A criminal case arising there may belong to Las Vegas Justice Court rather than Las Vegas Municipal Court. Check the court named on the ticket, complaint or hearing notice.

02 / Las Vegas township cases

How to Search Las Vegas Justice Court Criminal Records

Las Vegas Justice Court handles qualifying misdemeanor cases, preliminary felony proceedings, criminal hearings and certain other matters within the Las Vegas township.

Its public search is a separate Odyssey Public Access service, not the Eighth Judicial District Court’s portal.

Step-by-step Justice Court case search

  1. Open the official public access page.

Visit the Las Vegas Township Justice Court Records Inquiry website.

  2. Select the criminal records search.

Choose the criminal case-records option rather than Civil Records or the traffic-payment section.

  3. Select a search method.

The court’s instructions allow criminal searches by defendant name, case number or attorney information.

  4. Enter the defendant’s name.

For defendant searches, enter the first and last names. Add known identifying information to narrow the results.

  5. Review the matching cases.

Compare the name, case number, charges, filing date and court events.

  6. Open the case record.

Review the available Register of Actions and check for hearings, plea entries, disposition and later proceedings.

  7. Verify the final outcome.

When you need a certified disposition or another official filing, contact the Justice Court records office.

Useful search tips

Las Vegas Justice Court’s public search instructions support wildcard searching with an asterisk (*) when part of a name is uncertain.

The court also warns that some searches may display only the first 200 matching results. Narrow broad searches with accurate name details, case status or filing dates rather than assuming that every match is visible.

Recently issued traffic citation? The Justice Court’s public-access notice advises that some traffic citations may not be updated until three to four weeks after the hearing date. Do not miss a citation deadline simply because a record has not yet appeared online.
03 / City misdemeanor cases

Las Vegas Municipal Court Criminal Records Search

Las Vegas Municipal Court handles applicable misdemeanor, ordinance and traffic matters within the city’s jurisdiction.

It offers two helpful public options: a case-number docket search and a separate defendant case-history search.

When you have the case number

Case Docket Search

Enter the Municipal Court case number to look up the case and available docket information.

Use the Municipal Court’s separate party-search portal, which includes last-name and date-of-birth search fields.

Open Defendant Search ↗

How to search Las Vegas Municipal Court by name

  1. Open the defendant case-history search.

Use the official Municipal Court name-search portal linked above.

  2. Enter the identifying information.

The current interface identifies Last Name and Date of Birth as required fields. Add First Name when appropriate.

  3. Complete the CAPTCHA.

    Follow the website’s human-verification instructions.

  4. Submit the search.

Review the matches to locate the relevant Municipal Court case.

  5. Open the case or use its number.

Use the case-number docket search for available case information, including the disposition or later court activity.

Request a complete Municipal Court case record

The court also publishes a Records Research Request Form. It supports requests for a specific case, a case type or a search of available Municipal Court cases in its case-management system.

The form allows requesters to specify disposition and minute records, complaints, citations and certification requirements.

The published form lists research charges including $0.50 per page, $1 per year or case, and $3 per certification, with mailing charges where applicable. Do not include advance payment: the form instructs requesters to wait for an invoice before paying. Confirm current prices with the court.

Traffic-law difference: Nevada changed the classification of many traffic violations beginning January 1, 2023. Some citations are now civil infractions rather than criminal offenses. Check the specific case classification before interpreting a ticket as a criminal record.
04 / Felony and gross-misdemeanor cases

Eighth Judicial District Court Criminal Case Search

The Eighth Judicial District Court is the main felony and gross-misdemeanor trial court serving Clark County, including Las Vegas.

Its public court portal provides access to qualifying criminal case information, case calendars, court events and available filings.

How to find a Las Vegas felony case

  1. Open the District Court portal.

Use the official Clark County Courts website.

  2. Choose the public search function.

Look for Smart Search or the currently available public case-search option.

  3. Search by case number or defendant.

Use the complete case number if known. A name search may return multiple possible matches.

  4. Confirm the filing details.

Check the court, criminal case category, filing year and available case information.

  5. Review the events and disposition.

Check for charging documents, hearings, plea, trial outcome, dismissal, sentencing and later court orders.

  6. Obtain certified documents if needed.

Contact the Clerk’s Records Division for a certified judgment or other official filing.

Why a felony may appear in two courts

A felony may first appear in Las Vegas Justice Court for initial proceedings. If the matter is bound over to District Court, the District Court Clerk assigns a separate case number after the bindover materials are presented.

That means the Justice Court’s preliminary case and the District Court’s eventual judgment can be separate records. Searching both systems can help trace the prosecution from its initial stage to the final disposition.

Finding older felony records

The District Court Clerk maintains records dating to September 1909. Most records from 1990 onward are searchable online, while earlier cases may require a records request and research of archival indexes or microfilm.

05 / Official documents and certified copies

How to Request Certified Las Vegas Criminal Court Records

An online case listing is useful for locating a file, but an employer, licensing authority, attorney, government office or other recipient may require a certified judgment or disposition.

Request documents from the court holding the original case. A Municipal Court clerk cannot certify the original judgment maintained by District Court, and vice versa.

Eighth Judicial District Court copy fees

Document servicePublished fee
Ordinary photocopy $0.50 per page
Certification of Clerk-produced document Additional $3 per document
Exemplification of Clerk-produced document Additional $6 per document
Certification of a copy supplied by the requester $5, where the original is on file
Pre-1990 records name search $0.50 per year, per name

How to place a District Court document request

  1. Find the case number.

Use the District Court portal or identify the case through a prior court notice.

  2. Choose the document.

Examples include the sentencing judgment, guilty plea, dismissal order, indictment or final disposition.

  3. Complete the Clerk’s copy request form.

Specify whether you need a plain, certified or exemplified copy.

  4. Email or mail the request.

Send the form to the District Court Records Division using the official submission instructions.

  5. Confirm the charge and delivery.

The Clerk can provide mailing or pickup instructions. Archived records and larger requests can take longer to process.

Las Vegas Justice Court record requests

For Justice Court documents, use the court’s records process. Include the case number, defendant name and a precise description of the document you need.

The Justice Court’s records policy permits criminal case-record requests by email to Records.Criminal@clarkcountynv.gov. The court may estimate applicable copy fees and require prepayment.

Most useful document: When you need to prove whether charges ended in conviction or dismissal, request the final court disposition rather than relying on a booking report or an initial charging document.
06 / Las Vegas Metropolitan Police background checks

LVMPD SCOPE Criminal Background Check: Fee & Request Process

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Records and Fingerprint Bureau provides a local criminal-history report commonly called a SCOPE record.

The official published fee effective July 1, 2026 is $13 per background check.

A SCOPE report covers information maintained by LVMPD and covered agencies for which LVMPD maintains criminal history. It is not a complete Nevada statewide or FBI criminal-history report.

How to request a SCOPE record

  1. Open the LVMPD Background Checks page.

Review the permitted purposes, current fee and identification requirements.

  2. Choose a submission method.

LVMPD offers in-person, online and mailed request options.

  3. Prepare identification.

The department requires an accepted, unexpired government-issued photo ID. School IDs and work badges do not satisfy this requirement.

  4. Submit the required authorization.

For requests involving another person’s history, LVMPD requires an original notarized authorization from that person. Online or mailed requests may also require notarized identity documentation.

  5. Pay the $13 fee.

Follow the payment instructions for your chosen method.

  6. Review the completed report.

Check any listed arrest or citation and compare it with the corresponding court disposition.

Important limit: LVMPD explains that its SCOPE report does not include criminal-history records maintained exclusively by other agencies, such as Henderson Police or North Las Vegas Police. For those records, contact the corresponding agency.

Need your statewide Nevada criminal history?

An individual can instead request their own fingerprint-based record from the Nevada State Police Criminal History Repository. The state provides separate submission routes for applicants inside and outside Nevada.

The statewide repository covers Nevada records and does not automatically include other states or federal criminal-history information.

07 / Police arrest and incident reports

How to Request Las Vegas Police Arrest Records

Police arrest reports and incident reports are separate from criminal court records. If LVMPD investigated an incident, its Records and Fingerprint Bureau provides the procedure for obtaining eligible reports.

Effective July 1, 2026, LVMPD lists a $13 fee for an incident report or traffic collision report. Access to arrest reports depends on the record, requester and applicable disclosure restrictions.

Information to prepare

  • LVMPD event number, if known
  • Date and approximate time of the incident
  • Incident location or address
  • Names of involved persons
  • Your contact details and required identification
  • Notarized authorization when the requester’s relationship to the record requires it

LVMPD advises allowing up to ten business days after a report is filed before it becomes available for eligible release.

Choose the correct request channel: LVMPD directs involved persons, attorneys and certain other requesters to its Records and Fingerprint Bureau process. General public records and media requests may be routed through its separate Public Records Unit.
08 / Two different inmate lookups

Las Vegas Jail and Clark County Detention Center Inmate Searches

A person arrested in the Las Vegas area may be held in different facilities depending on the location and nature of the arrest.

City custody

Las Vegas City Detention Center

The city’s detention services primarily handle people held for applicable city misdemeanor matters.

County custody

Clark County Detention Center (CCDC)

Search current county detention records by at least two letters of the person’s last name, inmate ID or Justice Court case number.

The county’s system includes qualifying current custody information and is separate from the City Jail database.

Information: (702) 671-3900.

Search Clark County Inmates ↗
A booking is not a conviction. Both searches concern custody information. Some people are awaiting trial, and others may have holds or sentences unrelated to the charge you are researching. Use the relevant court record to determine the final disposition.

What if the person is not in either facility?

The person may have been released, transferred, held in Henderson or North Las Vegas, or placed in another correctional facility. Contact the relevant arresting or detention agency before concluding that no custody record exists.

Record sealing

Nevada permits qualifying court and criminal-history records to be sealed through applicable procedures. A sealed record may be excluded from ordinary public searches.

LVMPD Sealing Records Guidance ↗

Why the court matters for record sealing

Las Vegas Municipal Court matters may require a different sealing procedure from Justice Court and District Court matters. The Clark County District Attorney’s published guidance distinguishes municipal charges prosecuted by city attorneys from the county criminal court process.

An order sealing records generally restricts ordinary access but does not necessarily destroy every related government record or prevent access by legally authorized agencies.
