Brazos County Criminal Records Search: Cases & Public Records
Brazos County Criminal Records Search: Find Court Cases, Arrests and Public Records
To search Brazos County criminal records, use the county’s official Judicial Records Search (Justice Web). The system provides public access to qualifying criminal cases, court hearings and jail-related records for Brazos County, including Bryan and College Station.
If you need a certified criminal judgment, indictment or disposition, contact the Brazos County District Clerk. Unlike many Texas counties, Brazos County assigns the District Clerk responsibility for both felony cases and Class A/B misdemeanor records.

How to Search Brazos County Criminal Cases by Name or Case Number
Brazos County’s judicial search uses a Tyler Technologies public portal linked from the official county courts and Sheriff’s Office websites. Its main search functions include Smart Search and Search Hearings.
-
Open the official Brazos County Judicial Records Search.
Go to the county’s authorized portal. It is hosted on a Tyler Technologies domain but linked directly by Brazos County government.
-
Choose Smart Search.
This is the court-record search function. Do not select Search Hearings unless you are specifically looking for a scheduled court appearance.
-
Enter the case number or party name.
Use the exact case identifier when available. If searching by person, enter the name in the format requested by the portal.
-
Refine the results.
The Sheriff’s official instructions explain that the search can be refined using information such as case number, case type or judgments.
-
Identify the matching criminal case.
Check the defendant, case number, court and available filing details. Never assume a same-name result belongs to a particular person without verifying additional reliable information.
-
Review the public case history.
Where available, look for charges, hearing entries, case events and judgments or dispositions. The portal’s public information may not include every court document.
-
Save the case number for any document request.
If you need a certified disposition, indictment, signed judgment or a document that is not displayed, use the District Clerk’s records request process.
Why doesn’t Justice Web show the original case documents?
The portal’s official notice states that after a software update effective September 1, 2019, most documents were no longer accessible through Justice Web. The notice specifically indicates that access to probable-cause statements was not affected.
Other records remain available, subject to legal restrictions, through the District Clerk, County Clerk or Justice of the Peace clerk responsible for the proceeding.
Brazos County Felony and Misdemeanor Criminal Court Records
It is easy to send a Texas criminal records request to the wrong clerk. In Brazos County, the District Clerk’s duties are broader than the arrangement often found elsewhere.
The county cites Texas Government Code Section 25.0232 in explaining that its District Clerk serves the district courts and county courts and maintains documents for felony and Class A/B misdemeanor criminal cases.
Felony criminal cases: District Courts
Brazos County’s four District Courts are:
- 85th District Court
- 272nd District Court
- 361st District Court
- 472nd District Court
The District Courts generally hear felony prosecutions and, under local rules, related misdemeanor charges involving the same defendant. That means a misdemeanor charge connected to a felony may be heard with the felony case rather than being tried separately in a County Court at Law.
Use the official District Courts directory to identify the appropriate court. Its current court information also links to dockets, forms and court-appointed counsel procedures.
Class A and Class B misdemeanors: County Courts at Law
Brazos County has two County Courts at Law. These courts handle misdemeanor criminal cases within their jurisdiction, among other matters.
County Court at Law No. 1 also publishes magistrate docket information, while County Court at Law No. 2 describes an Associate Misdemeanor Court docket on specified weekdays.
For both courts, the county directs inquiries about Class B and higher criminal case filings and records to the District Clerk.
Official reference: Brazos County Courts at Law.
Class C cases: Justice of the Peace and municipal courts
Class C misdemeanor matters ordinarily belong to a Justice of the Peace or municipal court, depending on the jurisdiction and charging circumstances.
Brazos County’s public records directory specifically assigns Class C misdemeanor records to the Justice of the Peace courts. It separately identifies the County Clerk as a contact for certain appealed Class C cases.
How to Find Brazos County Criminal Court Dates and Dockets
The Justice Web portal has a separate Search Hearings function designed to locate court events within specified dates.
Use Search Hearings
-
Open Justice Web and select Search Hearings.
Use the official portal’s hearing search instead of the general Smart Search.
-
Choose the location and hearing type.
The Sheriff’s instructions identify these as the first two hearing search options.
-
Select the search type.
Options include Case Number, Party Name, Business Name, Attorney Name, Attorney Bar Number and Judicial Officer.
-
Enter the search criteria.
Use the case number or other available permitted identifier.
-
Set the date range.
Enter the beginning and ending hearing dates, then submit the search.
-
Verify your scheduled appearance.
Confirm any important courtroom, date or time information using the court’s official notice or appropriate court office.
Direct docket links for individual courts
Brazos County’s official Court Dockets directory separately links to the 85th, 272nd, 361st and 472nd District Courts; County Courts at Law Nos. 1 and 2; Justice of the Peace precincts; and the felony and misdemeanor associate courts.
If you already know the assigned court, the court-specific docket directory may be more convenient than a countywide hearing search.
How to Request Certified Brazos County Criminal Records
The Brazos County District Clerk provides an official records request procedure for criminal and civil court searches and document copies.
Unlike ordinary arrest or police records requests, judicial records are administered through the responsible court record custodian. Brazos County explains that judicial records generally do not fall under the standard Texas Public Information Act process.
Submit a District Clerk records request
-
Locate the case through Justice Web.
Record the case number, defendant’s name, court and approximate judgment date.
-
Open the District Clerk’s Records Requests section.
Choose its official online form or printable records request form.
-
Specify the exact document needed.
Examples include a final judgment, indictment, court order, disposition or another publicly accessible filing.
-
Indicate whether certification is necessary.
A certified copy carries an additional fee and is different from an ordinary printout.
-
Review the cost and submission requirements.
The clerk’s request procedure and applicable charges must be followed before the request is processed.

Brazos County Jail Records, Arrest Search and Inmate Lookup
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office directs the public to Justice Web for inmate search information. Its published instructions explain that Smart Search can be used to locate people currently in jail or previously held at the Brazos County Detention Center, subject to the portal’s available data and access restrictions.

Open the Sheriff’s Justice Web instructions.
Follow the link into the official county records portal.
-
Select Smart Search.
Use the available party or other search criteria.

An arrest report is generally requested from the responding or arresting law-enforcement agency. Brazos County’s open records directory has separate instructions and request links for the Sheriff’s Office, Bryan Police Department, College Station Police Department and Texas A&M University Police Department.
The Sheriff’s Office uses the county’s JustFOIA portal to receive public records and background-check requests. The availability of a police report depends on applicable Texas disclosure rules and exemptions.
Bryan and College Station Municipal Criminal Records
Brazos County contains the cities of Bryan and College Station, including the Texas A&M University area. Not every criminal citation issued in these communities belongs to a county felony or Class A/B misdemeanor case.
Bryan Municipal Court
Bryan Municipal Court of Record handles Class C misdemeanor cases filed with the court, including qualifying traffic, Penal Code and other statutory violations. It also handles city ordinance violations.
The court publishes weekly dockets, citation response instructions and information on pleas, court appearances and warrants.

Phone: 979-209-5400
College Station Municipal Court
College Station Municipal Court processes qualifying citations, court dates, warrants and case compliance. Its website links to court dockets and citation information.
The court directs records inquiries to its own office rather than the city’s general Public Information Act request procedure.
Address: 300 Krenek Tap Road, College Station, TX 77842
Phone: 979-764-3683
Justice of the Peace Class C misdemeanor records
For Class C proceedings outside the relevant municipal court or otherwise assigned to a Justice of the Peace, use the Brazos County Justice of the Peace court system.
Brazos County has four Justice of the Peace precincts. Its official docket directory links to each precinct’s court calendar. The county’s contact directory provides the individual office locations and telephone numbers.
Start at Brazos County Court Dockets and select the correct Justice of the Peace precinct.
Texas DPS Criminal History Search vs. Brazos County Court Records
If you need a wider Texas criminal-history search rather than records from one county’s courts, the Texas Department of Public Safety operates a separate public Criminal History Conviction Database search.
The DPS system requires a public user account and purchased search credits. Its published search instructions list a base cost of $1 per search credit, with payment-related transaction fees when applicable.
How the DPS search works
-
Use the public DPS criminal-history website.
Do not register for the restricted secure site intended for specifically authorized organizations.
-
Create a public account and purchase credits.
Review the current credit and processing-fee schedule first.
-
Search using the required name fields.
DPS requires first and last name and allows additional matching information.
-
Review possible results with caution.
DPS warns that name-based searches may match unrelated individuals.
-
Use fingerprint review where positive identity is essential.
DPS explains that fingerprints are necessary for reliable identification of a particular criminal-history subject.
What about Texas state prison records?
A person incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice may not be in the Brazos County jail system. Use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender information resources for qualifying state corrections records.
Why Brazos County Criminal Records May Not Appear Online
| Problem | Likely reason | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| No case under a person’s name | Name variation, wrong court, indexing limits or a restricted case. | Use an exact case number or contact the correct clerk. |
| Case appears but no documents | Most filed documents stopped being available through Justice Web in 2019. | Submit a records request to the responsible clerk. |
| Class C citation not found | The record may be maintained by Bryan, College Station or a Justice of the Peace. | Contact the issuing court using the citation number. |
| Old booking no longer visible | Search coverage, custody changes or record availability. | Ask the Sheriff’s Records Unit or arresting agency. |
| Hearing absent from Search Hearings | Wrong date range, court location or search criteria. | Confirm the setting with the assigned court. |
| Portal will not load | JavaScript, cookie, browser or session requirements. | Use a supported updated browser and retry through the county’s website. |
| Record is sealed or expunged | Legal restrictions may prevent ordinary public disclosure. | Respect the restriction and consult the official custodian about lawful access. |
| No conviction listed | Case pending, dismissed, incomplete or held in another jurisdiction. | Check the court’s current final disposition and any later orders. |
How to confirm a final conviction or dismissal
Search the public criminal case history for a judgment or disposition. If the information is insufficient, request the court’s final document through the District Clerk. A filed charge or jail entry is not proof of a conviction.
What about expunged or restricted records?
Texas law provides expunction and nondisclosure procedures for qualifying cases. These are different forms of relief with different legal effects. An ordinary public search should not be used to evade sealed, expunged or otherwise protected records.
For official forms and legal information, consult TexasLawHelp and the applicable Texas statutes or an attorney familiar with Brazos County procedures.
