Independent informational resource: CriminalCourtRecord.org is not affiliated with the Volusia County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Volusia County Division of Corrections, Florida Department of Law Enforcement or any other government agency. This guide explains official record-access procedures and does not perform background checks or issue certified criminal records.

Where to Find Volusia County Criminal Records

The correct search depends on whether you need a court case, arrest report, jail booking, statewide criminal-history record or certified criminal disposition.

How to Search Volusia County Criminal Records by Name

The Clerk’s official Case Inquiry is the best starting point for a publicly accessible Volusia criminal case. It covers available circuit and county court case records.

The public website is maintained by the Office of Laura E. Roth, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Volusia County.

  1. Open the official records website. Visit Volusia County Clerk — Online Public Records.
  2. Select Case Inquiry. On the page, find the Case Inquiries section and open Case Inquiry. This is the correct option for criminal case records.
  3. Read and accept the disclaimer. The Clerk explains that online case information is provided for general public reference and is not the certified official record.
  4. Choose the available search method. Search by the person’s name or a complete court case number using the Case Management System’s available fields.
  5. Enter the defendant’s name. Use accurate spelling and any available middle-name information. Follow the portal’s displayed name format.
  6. Review the matching results. Compare names, case numbers, filing dates and other available identifiers. A matching name does not necessarily mean it is the same person.
  7. Open the criminal case record. Select the matching case and review the available case summary, scheduled proceedings and docket history.
  8. Check the docket tab. The Clerk now provides many public document images directly within the docket tab. Some images require additional review before they can be viewed.
  9. Verify the final disposition. Look for a dismissal, guilty plea, adjudication, sentencing entry, acquittal or other final order.
  10. Save the case number. Use it when requesting a certified disposition or other official document from the Clerk.
Volusia-specific tip: You do not always need to visit the courthouse to see the underlying public documents. The Clerk explains that many images are available on the docket tab, while other public documents may require Clerk review before being released for online viewing.

Do you need an account to search Volusia criminal cases?

The Clerk provides a public Case Inquiry route where visitors accept a disclaimer before using the search.

Users seeking additional document-viewing permissions may apply for elevated access. The Clerk states that these applications require a notarized signature and other information appropriate to the requested access level.

Additional viewing permissions do not override confidentiality protections for sealed, expunged or otherwise protected court records.

Case Inquiry vs Criminal Event vs Citation Inquiry: Which One Should You Use?

The Volusia Clerk’s search page offers several tools with similar names. Choosing the correct one avoids unnecessary searching.

Clerk search option What it does When to use it
Case Inquiry Searches criminal and other court case records by name or case number. Use first when looking for a person’s criminal court case.
Criminal Event Inquiry Provides criminal court schedule and event searches. Use when researching hearing dates, event types, court officials or processing locations.
Citation Inquiry Searches traffic citation information. Use when checking available traffic citation details rather than an ordinary felony or misdemeanor docket.
Arrest/Booking Download Provides daily booking information generated from the county jail-management system. Use when researching a recent arrest or booking rather than the final criminal case outcome.
Official Records Searches recorded land and other official documents. Not the primary search for criminal prosecutions.
Common mistake: Searching the Clerk’s Official Records document index instead of Case Inquiry can make it appear that a criminal case does not exist. Official Records and criminal court case records are separate search categories.

Volusia County Felony, Misdemeanor and Criminal Traffic Records

Volusia County belongs to Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit, which includes Flagler, Putnam and St. Johns counties.

Criminal cases are generally handled in circuit or county court depending on the offense.

Case category Typical matters Search source
Circuit Criminal / Felony Felony prosecutions and related proceedings. Volusia Clerk Case Inquiry; relevant circuit criminal office.
County Criminal / Misdemeanor Misdemeanor charges and other matters within county criminal jurisdiction. Volusia Clerk Case Inquiry; relevant misdemeanor office.
Criminal Traffic Qualifying criminal driving charges, including certain DUI offenses. Court criminal or traffic services as appropriate.
Civil Traffic Noncriminal traffic infractions. Clerk Citation Inquiry.
Juvenile Delinquency Criminal-law matters involving minors under separate statutory rules. Restricted court access; not an ordinary public adult criminal search.
Federal Criminal Criminal charges filed in federal court. PACER; not Volusia’s state court index.

How to tell whether the defendant was convicted

A court case can contain several charges, and those charges may have different outcomes.

Disposition or docket term Meaning What to verify
Pending The prosecution remains unresolved. Later hearings and final orders.
Information Filed A formal charging document was filed. Whether charges were amended or dismissed.
Guilty Plea The defendant entered a guilty plea. Acceptance, judgment and sentence.
Adjudicated Guilty The court formally found the defendant guilty. Specific counts and later court relief.
Adjudication Withheld The court withheld formal adjudication under an applicable disposition. Legal effect varies by purpose and statute.
Nolle Prosequi The prosecutor declined to pursue a specified charge. Whether other counts remained active.
Dismissed A charge or case was dismissed. Whether every charge was dismissed.
Acquitted The defendant was found not guilty of a charge. The final verdict or judgment.
Closed The court has marked the matter administratively concluded. Closure alone does not establish conviction.
Never treat a charge as proof of guilt. An arrest, police allegation or criminal filing does not establish a conviction. Check the final court judgment and any later orders before relying on a case record.

How to Obtain Certified Volusia County Criminal Court Records

  1. Find the criminal case first. Use the online Case Inquiry to identify the full case number.
  2. Download the official request form. Open the Criminal/Traffic Copy/Record Search Request PDF linked below.

Volusia County Recent Arrest Records: Daily Booking Reports

Volusia County offers a useful records resource that is not always explained in general criminal-record guides: the Clerk publishes recent Arrest/Booking Download files.

The data comes from Volusia County’s Jail Management System rather than from criminal court judgments.

It is intended for reviewing arrest and booking activity, not establishing whether someone was convicted.

How the daily arrest files work

  • Files contain initial booking and charge information for people booked into the Branch Jail during the previous 24 hours.
  • Reports are generally generated daily.
  • Downloadable data is provided through the Clerk’s public records page.
  • The Clerk’s general description states that daily files remain available for approximately 14 calendar days.
  • Some booking information may be withheld because of statutory exemptions.
  • The files are created from county jail data and are not maintained as official court judgments by the Clerk.

How to find a recent booking report

  1. Visit the Clerk’s Online Public Records page. Open the official page linked below.
  2. Find the Criminal Information section. Select Arrest/Booking Download.
  3. Choose the relevant report date. The available files are organized by date.
  4. Open the booking data. Review the available name, arrest, booking and charge details.
  5. Verify the court case separately. If criminal charges were filed, use Case Inquiry to determine the prosecution and recorded disposition.
Time-window limitation: A recent daily booking report is not a complete lifetime arrest-history search. If you need an older police arrest or incident report, contact the relevant law-enforcement agency.

Volusia County Jail Inmate Search and Booking Information

Jail custody and booking information is maintained by the Volusia County Division of Corrections.

This agency is separate from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The Division of Corrections operates an online inmate information search for members of the public.

How to use the Volusia inmate search

  1. Open the official Corrections search. Visit Volusia County Inmate Information Search.
  2. Accept the disclaimer. The website explains that online jail data is informational and is not an official certified record.
  3. Use the available search fields. Enter the requested name or identifying information.
  4. Review possible matches. Confirm the available booking and identifying details.
  5. Check current custody information. Review the available facility, booking number, charge or bond information.
  6. Contact Corrections when necessary. For questions about current booking or bond arrangements, the Branch Jail booking office operates around the clock.
  7. Use the Clerk for the criminal case outcome. Jail records are not the final criminal court disposition.
Update frequency: Volusia County states that its inmate information search is updated approximately every 15 minutes. However, the online system still warns that its contents are not an official record.

What if the arrest happened inside a city?

Although the Sheriff’s Office has countywide authority, it primarily serves unincorporated Volusia County and certain contracted municipalities, including Deltona, DeBary, Pierson and Oak Hill.

A police report created by the Daytona Beach Police Department, Ormond Beach Police Department or another municipal agency may need to be requested from that city rather than the Sheriff’s Office.

Pending investigations: The Sheriff’s Office explains that reports involving open investigations or certain active proceedings may have restricted release until a case is resolved or becomes eligible for public disclosure.

FDLE Florida Criminal History Search for Volusia County

For a Florida statewide criminal-history search rather than a single Volusia court case, use the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

FDLE maintains Florida’s central criminal-history repository and offers public name-based criminal-history searches.

How to search FDLE criminal records

  1. Open FDLE Criminal History Checks. Visit the official FDLE site.
  2. Select Instant Search. Choose the public instant name-based criminal-history search.
  3. Enter the required identifying information. Follow the portal’s demographic search instructions.
  4. Pay the applicable charge. The public instant search costs $24 plus a $1 credit-card processing fee.
  5. Review the returned results. Instant results may be printed or emailed, but they are not certified.
  6. Verify possible identity matches. A name-based record search does not establish identity as conclusively as a legally authorized fingerprint-based check.
  7. Confirm important dispositions with the court. If an arrest or charge appears, request the official court judgment where necessary.

FDLE Instant Search

Results are provided electronically and are not certified.

Cost: $24 plus $1 card-processing fee.

Processed FDLE request

Certified or Non-Certified Search

FDLE separately processes requests for certified or non-certified results.

Published agency processing estimates are five business days for non-certified searches and six to seven business days for certified searches, excluding mailing time.

How to obtain your own Florida criminal history

FDLE provides a separate Personal Review process allowing individuals to review their own Florida criminal histories and challenge inaccurate or incomplete information.

Personal Review requires fingerprints and has no FDLE processing fee, though fingerprint-collection charges may apply.

FDLE explicitly states that another person cannot use Personal Review to access your private record. The service is also not intended for employment, licensing, immigration or certification purposes.

Coverage limitation: A public FDLE search covers qualifying Florida criminal-history data. It is not a complete search of every federal court, out-of-state case, or record excluded by law.

New in October 2026: Statewide Florida CaseAccess

On October 13, 2026, the Volusia County Clerk announced the availability of CaseAccess, an optional statewide court case research subscription.

CaseAccess allows users to search available case information from all 67 Florida counties through the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal.

This can be useful when researching a person who may have criminal court cases in Volusia, Flagler, Seminole, Orange, Brevard or other Florida counties.

Monthly subscription

$20 per month

An optional choice for people who need regular statewide case searches.

Annual subscription

$200 per year

An annual option for users performing frequent research across Florida counties.

How to access CaseAccess

  1. Open the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal. Use the official link below.
  2. Select Enter the Portal. Sign in with a registered account or create an account.
  3. Choose CaseAccess Subscription. Find the subscription option within the portal.
  4. Select the monthly or annual plan. Review the price before purchasing.
  5. Search across Florida counties. Use the statewide research system for available case information.
Do you need CaseAccess for Volusia County only? No. The Volusia Clerk specifically confirms that local court case information remains available for free through its existing Case Inquiry service.

The Clerk also emphasizes that CaseAccess is a research tool, not the official court record. Certified documents and authoritative case status must come from the appropriate county Clerk.

Volusia County Criminal Record Sealing and Expungement

A criminal court file may no longer be publicly accessible if it has been sealed or expunged by a valid court order or is confidential under Florida law.

Florida’s ordinary court-ordered criminal-history sealing and expungement procedures are governed principally by Florida Statutes §§ 943.059 and 943.0585.

Sealing vs expungement

Sealing

Public Access Is Restricted

Sealing generally prevents ordinary public access to qualifying records while allowing specified authorized agencies to access information under applicable law.

Expungement

Additional Record Removal

Expungement generally imposes stronger restrictions on maintaining or disclosing qualifying records, subject to statutory exceptions and authorized access.

How to apply for ordinary court-ordered relief

  1. Find the original Volusia criminal case. Record the case number, arresting agency and final disposition.
  2. Read FDLE eligibility requirements. Determine whether the charges and criminal history may qualify.
  3. Obtain a certified disposition. Request the original case disposition from the Volusia Clerk.
  4. Complete the FDLE Certificate of Eligibility application. Include the required supporting documents and fingerprint card.
  5. Pay the FDLE processing fee. The Certificate of Eligibility application requires a nonrefundable $75 fee.
  6. Wait for FDLE’s determination. FDLE states that eligibility review typically takes approximately 12 weeks after receipt of a complete application.
  7. Prepare the court petition. If a certificate is issued, complete the petition, sworn statement and proposed order required by the relevant court process.
  8. File with the Volusia Clerk. The Clerk lists a $42 filing fee for the sealing or expungement petition.
  9. Obtain the court’s final order. A Certificate of Eligibility alone does not seal or expunge the criminal history.
  10. Verify implementation. Confirm that the applicable court and law-enforcement agencies have processed the relief as required.
Important: Not every arrest or conviction is eligible for sealing or expungement. Eligibility depends on statutory conditions, the specific disposition, prior record relief and offense-related exclusions. Other forms of relief may have different procedures.

FDLE sealing and expungement assistance: 850-410-7870.

Why Can’t You Find Volusia County Criminal Records Online?

A missing search result does not always mean no criminal case exists. The correct next step depends on the database, date and type of record.

Problem Possible cause What to do
No criminal case found Misspelled name, incorrect filters or wrong county. Use a complete case number or contact the Clerk.
Only land or property records appear You selected Official Records rather than Case Inquiry. Return to the Clerk’s public Case Inquiry.
Recent arrest has no court case yet Criminal charges may not have been filed or entered. Check jail booking information and court records separately.
Document image will not open The document may require Clerk review or additional authorized access. Use the Clerk’s document request or public viewing procedures.
Old booking report is unavailable Daily arrest downloads have a limited retention window online. Request eligible arrest information from the original agency.
Inmate not found The person may have been released, transferred or held elsewhere. Verify custody through Corrections or the appropriate facility.
Incident report withheld An active investigation or legal exemption may restrict release. Contact the Sheriff’s Records Section about the applicable rules.
Sealed or expunged case A court order or statute restricts public access. Respect the restriction and use only authorized procedures.
FDLE history differs from court docket Reporting delays, identity issues or different system coverage. Check the original court disposition and FDLE correction procedures.
Federal prosecution missing The case belongs to a federal court. Search PACER.
No results do not prove no criminal history. A county case search, Sheriff report lookup, jail roster and FDLE repository response cover different information and may have different legal access restrictions.
