City of El Paso Criminal Records Search: Court Cases, Arrests, Warrants & Public Records

To search City of El Paso criminal records, begin with the official El Paso Municipal Court Public Access Portal if you need a city-issued Class C misdemeanor, traffic citation or municipal court warrant. For felony and Class A or B misdemeanor cases, use the separate El Paso County Criminal Case Search.

The City of El Paso, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso County District Clerk, County Clerk and Texas Department of Public Safety maintain different types of criminal information. A search in one system will not necessarily find records held by another.

This guide provides official government links, instructions for searching by name or case number, local court addresses, certified-record request procedures, 2026 fees, jail and warrant lookup options, and help finding records that do not appear online.

City Class C misdemeanors County felony and misdemeanor cases Free official case lookup Sheriff jail and warrant searches Certified dispositions
Which search should you use? For an El Paso Police traffic or city citation, start with Municipal Court. For a felony indictment, search El Paso County District Court records. For a Class A or B misdemeanor, search the county criminal case system. For a recent jail booking, use the Sheriff’s current-jail search.

This guide covers El Paso, Texas, not El Paso County, Colorado. CriminalCourtRecord.org is an independent educational website, not an official government criminal-history service or consumer reporting agency.

How to Search City of El Paso Municipal Court Criminal Records

The El Paso Municipal Court handles fine-only Class C misdemeanors and civil parking matters arising within the city limits.

The court provides a public access portal through the FullCourt Enterprise system. Visitors can search available case information, citations, municipal warrants and court calendars.

Search Municipal Court Records by Defendant Name

  1. 1

    Open the public portal

Visit the official El Paso Municipal Court Public Access Portal.

  2. 2

    Click Log In

The court instructs public users to select the Log In button on the portal’s starting page to enter the public search interface.

  3. 3

    Choose the party search

In the upper-left menu, select Searches → Case Searches → By Party.

  4. 4

    Enter the person’s name

Use the last name and first name fields. Include the date of birth if you reliably know it and the search form requests it.

  5. 5

    Review matching cases

Compare the defendant, case number, offense, citation date and other available case details.

  6. 6

    Read the case status

Look for court events, the scheduled docket, disposition and any publicly displayed warrant information.

Search Using a Citation Number

If you have the original traffic citation or municipal ticket, a citation-number search is usually more precise than searching a common name.

  1. Open the Municipal Court public portal.
  2. Click Log In.
  3. Select Searches.
  4. Choose Citation Search.
  5. Enter the citation number as required by the system.
  6. Click Search.
  7. Review the citation and court information.

Search by Municipal Criminal Case Number

The court also provides a case-number retrieval option:

  1. Open the public portal.
  2. Choose Cases in the upper-left menu.
  3. Select Criminal.
  4. Enter the case number without dashes.
  5. Click Retrieve.

The official portal provides a format example beginning with a case-type prefix such as TR, followed by the year and sequential number.

How Far Back Do El Paso Municipal Criminal Records Go?

This is a particularly important limitation.

The city’s public portal states that records before January 1, 2006, have been purged from its system under the applicable retention policy.

It also states that archived information and citations issued to people who were 16 years old or younger at the time of the citation are not displayed through the public portal.

New citation not showing? El Paso Municipal Court advises that tickets issued within the previous 7–10 business days may not yet be entered into the database. Recheck later or call the court rather than assuming the citation has been dismissed.

How to Search El Paso County Criminal Court Cases Online

For felony and adult Class A or B misdemeanor prosecutions, the primary public resource is the El Paso County Criminal Case Search.

This is separate from the city’s Municipal Court FullCourt database.

The county’s public criminal search provides fields for case numbers, defendant names, Soundex matching, date of birth, case status and date ranges.

Step-by-Step County Criminal Record Lookup

  1. 1

Open the official criminal case search

    Go to apps.epcountytx.gov/odysseyCrsPublic/CriminalCase.

  2. 2

    Choose the search type

Select the relevant search method. A known criminal case number is typically more precise than a name-only search.

  3. 3

    Enter the defendant’s name

The form has separate fields for Last Name, First Name and Middle Name.

  4. 4

Use Soundex if spelling is uncertain

The optional Use Soundex feature can help locate similar-sounding surnames. Review every result carefully because similar names do not establish identity.

  5. 5

    Apply optional filters

If you have too many matches, use an available date-of-birth field, case-status filter or the On or After and On or Before dates.

  6. 6

    Click Search

Review the returned case records and select the entry that most closely matches the known case details.

  7. 7

    Review the criminal case information

Check the assigned court, cause number, available charges, court events and disposition information.

  8. 8

    Determine the correct Clerk

For a felony criminal case, use the District Clerk. For an adult county misdemeanor, use the County Clerk.

  9. 9

    Request certified documents if necessary

If you need a certified judgment or dismissal, contact the actual record custodian instead of relying on a screenshot of the search results.

Practical search tip: Begin with the exact surname and first name. If that yields no result, try permitted spelling variations or Soundex. Only add restrictive status and date filters after checking a broader search; overly narrow filters can hide the case you need.

Is Registration Required?

The county’s standard public criminal case lookup is offered as a public search service.

Do not confuse it with the county’s separately published Case Portal for certain registered legal users. That attorney-oriented service requires registration details and is not the ordinary starting point for public criminal case research.

El Paso County Jail Inmate Search and Arrest Records

El Paso County maintains an official public jail-records search for people currently jailed in its detention facilities.

This is the appropriate starting point when you need current custody information rather than a final criminal conviction.

How to Search Jail Records by Name

  1. 1

Open the official Jail Records Search

Use the El Paso County public records system, not a third-party mugshot website.

  2. 2

    Enter the defendant’s name

The form offers separate last-name, first-name and middle-name fields.

  3. 3

Use date of birth when available

Additional identifying details can help distinguish people with similar names.

  4. 4

    Filter by booking period

The form provides Booked On or After and Booked On or Before date fields.

  5. 5

    Review any matching custody records

Check the available booking and detention information to determine whether the person is currently in the county system.

  6. 6

    Check the court case separately

For a prosecution and its outcome, search the county criminal court portal using the available case details.

Does the Jail Search Include Old Arrests?

Not comprehensively. El Paso County specifically labels this search as covering current jailings only.

Someone released years earlier may not appear. A missing result does not prove they were never arrested or convicted.

El Paso County Detention Facilities

Downtown Detention Facility

Address:
601 East Overland Avenue
El Paso, TX 79901

The downtown detention location is separate from the Municipal Court and the County Courthouse.

El Paso County Jail Annex

Address:
12501 East Montana Avenue
El Paso, TX 79938

The Sheriff’s Office operates the jail annex in eastern El Paso County.

Jail booking is not a conviction. A jail record may concern pending criminal charges, pretrial detention or another custody matter. To determine whether the person was actually convicted, consult the responsible criminal court’s final judgment.

El Paso Texas Warrant Search: City and County Records

El Paso residents may encounter warrants handled by municipal courts, county courts, district courts or other law-enforcement agencies.

One warrant search does not necessarily provide every warrant issued throughout the region.

El Paso Municipal Court Warrants

The City of El Paso Municipal Court’s FullCourt system offers public citation, warrant and court docket access.

For a city citation:

  1. Open the Municipal Court Portal.
  2. Click Log In.
  3. Search using the defendant’s name or citation number.
  4. Review the case and any displayed warrant-related information.
  5. Contact Municipal Court for current warrant procedures or a disputed status.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Warrant Search

The county publishes a separate warrant-search system for warrants issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

The public form includes:

  • Last name
  • First name
  • Middle name
  • Date of birth

Use the available identifying information, then contact the responsible agency or court if the result requires confirmation.

Warrant safety: Do not treat a no-result online search as official proof that no warrant exists. If you believe you have an outstanding warrant, contact the responsible court or an attorney to confirm your options. A public website is not a substitute for a formal warrant-status determination.

How to Obtain El Paso Police Arrest, Incident and Offense Reports

The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) maintains separate records concerning city police investigations, incident reports, crash records and certain police-issued clearance letters.

These records differ from court judgments and statewide Texas DPS criminal-history reports.

Texas DPS Criminal History Search for El Paso Residents

If you need available criminal-history information covering multiple Texas counties, use the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal History Conviction Name Search.

Texas DPS publishes a name-based public search for legally releasable Texas criminal-history information, including qualifying convictions and deferred adjudications.

This is different from looking up a particular El Paso criminal court proceeding.

How to Search Texas DPS by Name

  1. 1

    Open the DPS public website

Visit the official Texas DPS Criminal History Conviction Name Search.

  2. 2

    Register for a public account

Follow the account-registration process. Use the public website, not the restricted criminal justice agency interface.

  3. 3

    Purchase a search credit

DPS lists public search credits at $1 each. Its published card pricing includes a 2.25% fee plus $0.25 per transaction.

  4. 4

    Enter the legal name

Provide the first and last names. Additional middle-name or date-of-birth information can narrow the search.

  5. 5

    Review possible matches

Compare the available identifying details carefully. The system can return similar-sounding names.

  6. 6

    Interpret the result correctly

The public Texas DPS search is not a complete nationwide criminal-history check and does not guarantee identification through a name match alone.

Identity matching: Texas DPS warns that name-based results can produce false matches or miss actual records. Fingerprint identification is the reliable method for positively linking a criminal-history record to a specific individual.

How to Obtain Your Own Texas Criminal Record

Texas DPS provides procedures for people requesting a personal review of their criminal-history information, including fingerprint-based identification.

Use the Texas DPS Crime Records Division to locate the correct process and obtain current fingerprinting instructions.

What About Immigration or Federal Border-Related Cases?

El Paso is within the Western District of Texas, which handles federal criminal proceedings, including certain immigration and border-related offenses.

A federal prosecution is not automatically included in the El Paso County criminal case search.

Use PACER and select the applicable federal court if you know the case was prosecuted federally.

Federal immigration proceedings administered by immigration courts are separate from federal criminal prosecutions and use different case-information systems.

Can El Paso Criminal Records Be Expunged or Sealed?

Texas provides separate record-relief procedures for certain criminal histories, including expunction and orders of nondisclosure.

The outcome depends on the arrest, charge, conviction status, prior record, statutory waiting periods and exclusions.

Texas Expunction

Expunction may be available in qualifying circumstances under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A.

Examples can include specified arrests not resulting in prosecution, certain acquittals, qualifying dismissals and other situations defined by statute.

Not every dismissed case automatically qualifies.

Texas Order of Nondisclosure

An order of nondisclosure restricts disclosure of qualifying criminal-history information to the general public but does not necessarily prevent every authorised agency from obtaining it.

Texas Government Code Chapter 411 contains several nondisclosure provisions with different eligibility rules.

How to Begin an El Paso Criminal Record Relief Request

  1. Determine whether the case was municipal, county misdemeanor or district felony.
  2. Obtain the exact court disposition and cause number.
  3. Review the appropriate Texas expunction or nondisclosure law.
  4. Determine whether a petition is required and which court should receive it.
  5. Use official court forms where available.
  6. Identify agencies that may hold records subject to an expunction order.
  7. Submit the petition with required documentation and applicable fees.
  8. Attend a hearing if ordered and keep the signed court order.

The El Paso County District Clerk publishes information about expunctions and provides relevant court forms.

Record relief is not automatic for every offense. Eligibility, court procedures and record-destruction obligations differ by the applicable statute. For immigration, licensing or multiple arrests, consult a qualified Texas attorney before filing.

Why Can’t I Find an El Paso Criminal Record Online?

An empty search result does not necessarily mean no arrest or prosecution occurred. Different agencies maintain different records, and public access can be limited.

Problem Likely reason What to do
City citation not found It may take 7–10 business days for the citation to enter the system. Recheck later and contact Municipal Court if needed.
Municipal record from before 2006 missing The city states that older records have been purged from its public system under retention rules. Ask Municipal Court whether any legally available archival information remains.
Felony not in Municipal Court The prosecution belongs to a county District Court. Use the El Paso County Criminal Case Search and District Clerk.
Class A or B misdemeanor missing from city portal These are generally handled by county criminal courts. Search the county criminal system and contact the County Clerk.
Justice Court citation missing The case may have been filed before a Justice of the Peace. Check the court printed on the citation.
No result under exact name Spelling variations, multiple names, incorrect court or incomplete index information. Try the county search’s Soundex feature and verify the case number.
Old arrest not in jail search The county states that the public jail database covers current jailings only. Search the court record or contact the investigating law-enforcement agency.
Warrant not found The online search is not an exhaustive legal clearance of every warrant source. Confirm with the responsible court or law-enforcement agency.
Record sealed or expunged Public access may be restricted by law or court order. Ask the court about authorised access rules.
Federal case missing The proceeding belongs to the federal court system. Use PACER for the Western District of Texas or relevant federal district.

What If a Criminal Case Is Pending but Not Yet Filed?

A person may be booked into jail before charges are formally filed in a trial court.

If a recent arrest appears in the jail system but not in the criminal case portal, confirm whether the prosecution has been filed and whether the responsible court has assigned a cause number.

Do not conclude that charges were dismissed solely because a new court case is not yet searchable.

How to Read El Paso Criminal Records Correctly

Criminal records can include arrests, allegations, court proceedings and final judgments. These are legally distinct events.

Record term Meaning Does it prove conviction?
Arrest The person was taken into law-enforcement custody. No
Booking The person was processed by a detention facility. No
Citation A legal accusation requiring a response under the applicable procedure. No
Indictment A formal grand jury accusation. No
Pending charge A criminal allegation awaiting final resolution. No
Dismissed A charge or proceeding was dismissed. No conviction on that dismissed count
Convicted The proceeding resulted in a legally recognised criminal conviction. Yes, subject to later court action
Deferred adjudication A Texas legal disposition with statutory conditions and reporting implications. Depends on the legal purpose and final outcome
Nondisclosure or expunction A legal order restricting or removing access to qualifying records. Does not independently establish the original case outcome

If accuracy matters, review the final judgment and any later court orders rather than relying only on a jail roster, warrant listing or commercial arrest-record website.

FCRA and screening notice: CriminalCourtRecord.org is not a consumer reporting agency. It does not provide consumer reports for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or other regulated eligibility purposes. Employers and other covered users must follow applicable federal and Texas background-screening laws.

Some Texas criminal records may qualify for expunction or an order of nondisclosure under state law. Final Answer: Where to Start an El Paso Criminal Records Search

For City of El Paso Class C misdemeanors, traffic tickets or municipal court cases, start with the Municipal Court Public Access Portal. For county felony or Class A/B misdemeanor records, use El Paso County’s Criminal Case Search and contact the appropriate District or County Clerk for official documents.

To check current jail custody, use the county’s Jail Records Search. For available warrants, use the appropriate city or county warrant service. To request El Paso Police reports, contact the EPPD Records Division. For statewide Texas conviction-history information, use Texas DPS.

Always distinguish criminal charges from convictions, verify identity before attributing a record to a person, and consult the final court judgment when the outcome matters.
