Galveston County Criminal Court Records Search: Cases, Dockets & Public Records

To search Galveston County criminal court records, use the county’s official Tyler Odyssey Portal. The portal provides public access to qualifying criminal court case information, including felony and misdemeanor filings, case events and court hearings.

The Galveston County District Clerk maintains felony criminal court records, while the County Clerk handles misdemeanor cases filed in County Courts at Law Nos. 1, 2 and 3. Municipal and Justice of the Peace courts may maintain other criminal or citation records separately.

Important 2026 website change: Galveston County’s older Odyssey Public Access application reached its end of support on December 31, 2025. The county directs users to the newer Tyler Odyssey Portal. Do not rely on outdated instructions pointing to publicaccess.co.galveston.tx.us or the retired PublicAccess system.

Based on official Galveston County and Texas government resources reviewed October 17, 2026.

How to Search Galveston County Criminal Cases Online

Galveston County’s current Tyler Odyssey Portal is the primary starting point for publicly available criminal court case information.

The portal includes two especially useful functions:

  • Smart Search: Search court cases and their available public case information.
  • Search Hearings: Look up scheduled court hearings for a specified date range.

Step-by-step: Search criminal records by defendant name

  1. Open the official Odyssey Portal.

Go to portal.galvestoncountytx.gov/portal. Use a current browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled.

  2. Select Smart Search.

Choose the portal’s public case-search feature. This is the appropriate starting point for locating a filed criminal case.

  3. Enter the defendant’s information.

Use the person’s legal name or a known case number. A complete case number is preferable when several people share a similar name.

  4. Narrow the search.

Use the court, case category, date range or other supported search filters when available. Look for a criminal case rather than a civil, family or probate matter.

  5. Select the matching case.

Review the case number, court, parties, filing date and publicly available case information.

  6. Read the docket entries.

Check the available events, orders, hearings, motions and court activity. Document availability depends on the case and applicable access restrictions.

  7. Check the final outcome.

Determine whether the case is pending, dismissed, resolved by plea, tried, sentenced or subject to another disposition.

  8. Verify important information with the Clerk.

For a certified final disposition, restricted record or missing document, contact the District Clerk or County Clerk responsible for the case.

What if the Odyssey Portal does not open?

The official portal requires JavaScript and browser cookies. If the system presents an unsupported-browser or cookie warning, enable those settings or use another modern browser.

The county’s portal also displays a notice about a future move to a Tyler Technologies cloud address. If the bookmarked URL changes, return to the county’s official District Clerk or County Clerk website and follow the current records-search link.

Avoid outdated Galveston search instructions: Some older county FAQ pages still refer to the former PublicAccess interface, including links to documents displayed in blue under “Events & Orders of the Court.” Those instructions describe the retired interface and should not be treated as the exact layout of the newer Odyssey Portal.

Can you search without an account?

The portal offers public Smart Search access. Access to some documents, enhanced features or case materials may require account registration, attorney authorization or another legally appropriate access level.

The District Clerk provides separate registration guidance for attorneys of record who need elevated access. The Clerk advises allowing approximately two to three business days for review of an attorney’s elevated-access request.

03 / District Clerk felony records

Galveston County Felony Criminal Court Records

Felony cases prosecuted in Galveston County’s Judicial District Courts are maintained by the Galveston County District Clerk.

The county’s criminal District Courts include:

10th Judicial District Court

Criminal and civil district court matters handled through the Galveston County Justice Center.

56th Judicial District Court

Felony criminal and other qualifying district court cases.

122nd Judicial District Court

Criminal cases and other proceedings within the court’s assigned jurisdiction.

212th Judicial District Court

District criminal proceedings, including scheduled pretrial and trial matters.

405th Judicial District Court

Criminal and civil matters handled under its district court docket.

Which office has the filed document?

For these District Courts, contact the District Clerk rather than the individual judge’s office when you need a certified filed document.

The 306th District Court also appears in the county’s judicial directory, but it is primarily associated with family-law proceedings and should not be treated as an ordinary felony court search destination.

How a felony case reaches District Court

The Galveston County District Attorney’s office explains that felony investigations are referred for prosecution and presented to a grand jury. When an indictment is returned, the case is assigned to an assistant criminal district attorney and proceeds through District Court.

This matters when investigating a recent arrest: a jail booking or magistrate proceeding may exist before a felony indictment and corresponding District Court case become searchable.

Galveston County Misdemeanor Court Records Search

Most Class A and Class B misdemeanor prosecutions in Galveston County are handled through the statutory County Courts at Law.

The Galveston County Clerk maintains the official filed misdemeanor records for:

  • County Court at Law No. 1

These cases can include qualifying DWI, theft, assault and other misdemeanor prosecutions, depending on the charges and court assignments.

Useful local option: You do not necessarily need to travel to Galveston Island for every Clerk inquiry. Both the District Clerk and County Clerk provide service at the League City branch, although you should confirm that your specific record or certification service is available there.
05 / Criminal dockets and hearings

How to Find Galveston County Criminal Court Dates and Daily Dockets

A case lookup and a court-calendar search answer different questions.

If you want to know when a defendant’s next hearing is scheduled, the Odyssey Portal specifically directs visitors to use its Search Hearings feature.

Search a scheduled criminal hearing

  1. Open the Odyssey Portal.

Go to the county’s current portal and find Search Hearings.

  2. Enter the relevant date range.

Use the supported hearing-search fields and date filters.

  3. Identify the court or case.

Where available, narrow the search by case number, party or court.

  4. Review the hearing information.

Check the court assignment, date, time and available hearing description.

  5. Confirm any urgent hearing details.

Contact the assigned court coordinator for scheduling questions, especially when a hearing may have been reset.

Contact information for misdemeanor court scheduling

County Court at Law No. 3 (409) 621-7920 Assigned misdemeanor court scheduling questions
Missed or uncertain court date? Do not assume that an empty online calendar means the case has been dismissed. Court settings can be added or changed. Contact the assigned court coordinator or your attorney promptly.
06 / Official copies and dispositions

How to Obtain Certified Galveston County Criminal Court Records

An online docket may establish that a case was filed, but many legal and administrative purposes require a certified final disposition, judgment, sentencing order or other official court document.

The request must go to the Clerk holding the original case:

  • District Clerk: felony criminal cases in the District Courts.
  • County Clerk: misdemeanor criminal cases in County Courts at Law.
  • Municipal or Justice Court clerk: applicable city and Justice of the Peace cases.

County Clerk certified-copy fees

The Galveston County Clerk’s published records FAQ lists these charges:

Document type Published fee How to request
Plain paper copy $1 per page County Clerk’s Office or available ordering method
Certified copy $5 certification plus $1 per page Contact County Clerk for certified document order
District Clerk case copies See District Clerk’s 2026 fee schedule District Clerk copy request service

Charges can differ based on whether the document is paper, electronic, certified or specially authenticated. Confirm the exact total and delivery process before ordering.

Request District Court felony documents online

The District Clerk provides a dedicated online Request for Copies form for previously filed documents held by the District Clerk.

  1. Locate the criminal case number.

Search the Odyssey Portal and identify the correct District Court case.

  2. Identify the document you need.

For example, specify the judgment of conviction, dismissal order, indictment or sentencing document.

  3. Open the District Clerk’s Request for Copies form.

Enter the case and document details requested by the form.

  4. Specify whether certification is required.

A plain copy may be enough for personal research, while some agencies require a certified document.

  5. Submit and follow the Clerk’s instructions.

Confirm the current payment method and delivery options before completing the request.

Important limitation: The District Clerk’s online copy-request form is for documents already filed in a known case. The office explicitly states that it cannot use this form to create a list of cases or provide a custom report. Use the case-search portal first.

What if you only need proof of dismissal?

Ask for the final order or certified disposition that states the result of the particular charge. A docket marked “closed” is not always sufficient proof that the case ended in dismissal, conviction or acquittal.

If multiple charges were filed, review the outcome of each charge individually.

07 / Municipal and Justice of the Peace cases

Galveston, League City and Texas City Criminal Citation Records

Not every misdemeanor or traffic citation appears in the County Courts at Law. Some cases are filed in local Justice of the Peace courts or municipal courts.

These include qualifying Class C misdemeanors, municipal ordinance violations and other limited-jurisdiction matters.

The city’s Municipal Court maintains case dockets, dispositions and municipal citations.

The county’s JP Precinct 1 maintains offices in Bacliff and Texas City. JP Precinct 2 lists offices in Galveston, Santa Fe and Crystal Beach.

Other county JP precincts serve different geographic areas, including parts of the mainland. Use the county’s official precinct maps and the court named on the citation to identify the correct office.

Paying a citation is not the same as checking a criminal record. Some municipal payment portals are designed primarily for locating payable citations. If you need the complete docket or certified final disposition, contact the municipal or Justice Court clerk.
08 / Galveston County Sheriff’s Office

Galveston County Jail Inmate and Arrest Records

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail and provides access to current inmate information through its Corrections Division.

A jail booking may show that someone was taken into custody, but that is not proof that the person was convicted.

How to check current inmate information

  1. Open the Sheriff’s Corrections page.

Select the link under “Wondering if someone is in Jail?”

  2. Use the supported inmate-search options.

Follow the fields displayed by the Sheriff’s current inmate-search application.

  3. Compare identifying information.

Confirm that the returned result relates to the correct person before relying on the record.

  4. Review the custody details.

Check publicly available booking or incarceration information.

  5. Search the criminal court case separately.

For a final judgment, locate the corresponding County or District Court case when it becomes available.

09 / State criminal-history records

Texas DPS Background Check vs. Galveston County Court Search

The Texas Department of Public Safety maintains the statewide Computerized Criminal History system.

Its public Conviction Name Search provides access to qualifying Texas convictions and deferred adjudications. It is not the same as a Galveston County court docket search.

Galveston County court search

Best for finding a particular felony or misdemeanor case filed in the county.

Can help identify the case number, court, hearings and available disposition.

Best starting point: Odyssey Portal.

Texas DPS Conviction Name Search

Best for publicly releasable criminal-history records reported to Texas DPS from across the state.

The public service requires an account and paid search credits.

Public search fee: $3 per credit, plus applicable payment fees.

A name-based DPS match does not conclusively establish identity. Positive identification of a person with a criminal-history record generally requires fingerprints.

A missing result likewise does not establish that no criminal case was ever filed. Criminal-history reporting and public disclosure rules differ from court docket records.

10 / Search problems and record verification

Why a Galveston County Criminal Record May Be Missing Online

Search problem Possible reason What to do next
Old PublicAccess website no longer works The older Tyler application reached end of support in December 2025. Use the current Galveston County Odyssey Portal.
Felony case not found Indictment or case filing may not yet be entered, or the name may differ. Check the District Clerk and available case records.
Misdemeanor case missing It may be held by County Court at Law, Justice Court or Municipal Court. Confirm the court identified on the citation.
Court hearing date is unclear Case search and hearing-calendar information may differ. Use the Odyssey Search Hearings feature and confirm with the court coordinator.
Document not visible online Access restrictions or document availability rules may apply. Request the filed document from the proper Clerk.
Recent booking but no court case The matter may not yet have been formally filed or docketed. Check again and contact the responsible court or prosecutor.
Name search returns several matches Different people can share the same or similar names. Use a verified case number, court and other lawful identifiers.
Court case does not appear in DPS DPS reporting and public access differ from county court records. Review the actual county judgment or contact DPS as appropriate.
Sealed or juvenile record missing Texas law can restrict public access to certain criminal or juvenile records. Follow the relevant court’s authorized records-access procedure.

How to understand the final criminal case disposition

The original case filing does not establish guilt. A criminal docket can show charges, hearings, trial proceedings, dismissal, deferred adjudication, conviction, sentencing or later court orders.

If you are researching the outcome, check the final action for each charge and obtain a certified judgment or disposition when necessary.

What about expunged or nondisclosed records?

Texas provides statutory procedures for certain expunctions and orders of nondisclosure. Eligibility depends on the offense, outcome, time limits and other legal requirements.

An expunction or nondisclosure order may restrict public access, but these procedures have different legal effects and authorized agencies may have different rights of access.

Use the Texas State Law Library’s official legal guide for the governing law: Texas Expunction and Nondisclosure Information.

Responsible use: An arrest, indictment, pending charge or name match is not proof of conviction. Public court records are not automatically suitable for employment, tenant or other regulated eligibility screening.
