The Medina County Court of Common Pleas handles felony prosecutions. Its filed criminal records are maintained by the Criminal Division of the Medina County Clerk of Courts.
The Clerk explains that felony prosecutions are initiated in Common Pleas Court through a grand jury indictment or a bill of information filed by the county prosecutor.
The official criminal docket search is powered by the county’s Tyler Odyssey Portal.
Step-by-step: Search a felony case
-
Open the Common Pleas Court portal.
Visit the official Tyler Odyssey Portal using the Clerk’s docket-search link.
-
Select Smart Search.
The public portal identifies Smart Search as the option for searching court records. It also offers a separate Search Hearings feature.
-
Enter a defendant’s name or case number.
Use the full legal name or known criminal case number. A case number is more precise than a common-name search.
-
Review the matching cases.
Check the party information, filing date, case number and court category.
-
Select the criminal case.
Open the available case details and docket history.
-
Review the court events.
Look for the indictment, motions, hearings, journal entries, plea proceedings, sentencing and other recorded activity.
-
Check the final disposition.
A filed felony case may result in conviction, dismissal, acquittal or another outcome. Review the actual judgment or appropriate final entry.
-
Request a certified record when needed.
Contact the Clerk’s Legal Division for an official certified judgment, disposition or other document.
How to search Medina County criminal hearing dates
The Tyler Odyssey Portal includes Search Hearings, which allows visitors to look for court hearings during a specified date range.
If you are searching for an arraignment, pretrial hearing, trial or sentencing date, use this feature and confirm the result against the most recent court order.
Some older court documents use TIFF files
The Medina County Clerk has published unusually detailed instructions for opening scanned documents saved in TIFF (.tif or .tiff) format.
Some computers display only the first page of a multipage TIFF file, even when the document contains additional pages.
The Clerk recommends opening the file with a compatible multipage TIFF viewer. Its guidance covers Windows and macOS.
Do not assume that a downloaded court filing consists of one page simply because the image viewer displays only the first page.

What about a mayor’s court?
Some Ohio communities have mayor’s court proceedings for eligible traffic or ordinance matters. If your citation identifies a mayor’s court, contact the specific municipal authority rather than assuming the case is filed directly in the county Common Pleas docket.
For serious criminal matters, the case may eventually be handled in an appropriate Municipal or Common Pleas Court.
How to Obtain Certified Medina County Criminal Court Records
A public docket can show that a case was filed, but it may not satisfy a request for an official judgment, sentencing record, dismissal order or certified criminal disposition.
For felony cases in the Medina County Court of Common Pleas, request certified documents from the Medina County Clerk of Courts Legal Division.
For misdemeanor cases, contact the Medina or Wadsworth Municipal Court Clerk that maintains the original proceeding.

How to request a Medina County Sheriff’s arrest or incident report
The Sheriff’s Office provides an online Public Records Request Form. The form allows visitors to describe the records they need, including report numbers, involved parties, incident date, time and location.
You can indicate whether you want to inspect the records or obtain copies.
Do you have to provide a reason to request public records?
The Medina County Sheriff’s published records policy explains that requesters generally do not need to provide their identity or intended use when requesting public records.
A requester also is not required to submit a written request, although a written description can help the office locate the requested record.
The Sheriff’s policy lists $0.10 per paper page, with three pages or fewer supplied without a copying charge.
The office generally acknowledges or satisfies public records requests within three business days, but that is not a guarantee that every record will be produced within three days. Additional time may be needed for retrieval, legal review or redaction.
Ohio BCI Criminal Background Check for Medina County Residents
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) maintains the state’s computerized criminal-history system.
Unlike public court dockets, complete BCI computerized criminal histories are not freely available as general public records.
Individuals may request their own information through the authorized fingerprint-based procedure. Certain employers, licensing boards and other organizations can request checks when permitted by law.
How to request your own Ohio criminal-history record
-
Review Ohio Attorney General instructions.
Open the official Requesting Your Own Criminal Records page.
-
Prepare your identifying information.
Have your full name, address and the other details required by BCI.
-
Arrange fingerprinting.
Use an authorized WebCheck provider or follow the state’s instructions for submitting fingerprint cards when applicable.
-
Provide consent and identification.
Bring a valid photo ID and sign the necessary authorization.
-
Pay the correct fee.
BCI lists a $22 processing charge for the personal record request. A fingerprinting provider may charge additional service fees.
-
Review the result.
Compare the reported criminal-history information with the relevant court records and challenge inaccuracies through the proper agency.
Medina County Sheriff’s WebCheck fees in October 2026
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office is a local electronic-fingerprinting provider. Its published WebCheck service fees include its own transaction and service charges.
| Sheriff WebCheck service | Current fee | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Ohio BCI only | $27 | Ohio criminal-history information |
| FBI only | $33 | Authorized federal fingerprint-based background check |
| Combined BCI and FBI | $60 | Both checks when the receiving agency requires them |
How to obtain fingerprints at the Sheriff’s Office
The Sheriff’s WebCheck page instructs applicants to appear in person with photo identification, preferably an Ohio driver’s license.
The requesting employer or agency must specify whether BCI, FBI or both checks are needed and where the results should be sent.
Medina, OH 44256
WebCheck phone: (330) 764-3629
Fingerprinting hours:
Monday–Friday
8:00–11:30 a.m. and 1:00–3:30 p.m.
Payment: Check or money order only, according to the Sheriff’s published instructions.
Why the Ohio BCI and Sheriff fees are different
The $22 amount published by the Ohio Attorney General describes BCI processing for an individual’s own criminal-history request.
The Sheriff’s $27 BCI WebCheck amount is its published local fingerprint service price. Do not treat these two figures as interchangeable or assume the Sheriff’s fee is charged again on top of its advertised total.
Before paying, ask the provider which services and agency charges are included.

Are Medina County Criminal Records Public?
Many adult felony and misdemeanor court records are publicly accessible under Ohio law, subject to applicable confidentiality rules, sealing orders and other limitations.
Complete BCI computerized criminal histories have separate access restrictions and are not equivalent to public court records.
What happens when an Ohio record is sealed?
Ohio permits eligible people to request sealing or expungement of certain criminal records.
These are distinct legal remedies with specific eligibility conditions, waiting periods and consequences.
The current version of Ohio Revised Code § 2953.32, effective September 30, 2025, provides rules for qualifying conviction records and identifies categories of offenses excluded from relief.
The statute also distinguishes sealing from expungement for certain domestic violence-related convictions.
Eligibility depends on the exact offense, case history, timing and other statutory requirements. A missing public search result does not by itself establish that a record was sealed or expunged.
Why a Medina County Criminal Records Search May Show No Results
| Search problem | Possible explanation | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Felony not found in Common Pleas Court | Case may still be at the Municipal Court preliminary stage | Search Medina or Wadsworth Municipal Court |
| Misdemeanor missing from Common Pleas portal | Municipal Courts maintain most local misdemeanor dockets | Use Benchmark or Wadsworth CaseLook |
| Wadsworth case not in Medina Municipal search | The two courts operate separate systems | Use Wadsworth CaseLook |
| Recent Wadsworth filing missing | Online docket updates can lag by 24 hours or longer | Contact Wadsworth Municipal Court |
| Common Pleas case image opens incorrectly | Older scans may use multipage TIFF format | Follow the Clerk’s TIFF viewer instructions |
| Tyler Odyssey portal will not load | Browser may block required cookies or JavaScript | Adjust browser settings or use the Clerk’s portal help page |
| Inmate not found in Ohio DRC search | The person may be in county jail rather than state prison | Use Medina Sheriff’s inmate lookup |
| Public docket exists but BCI history is unavailable | BCI histories are restricted and have different reporting coverage | Follow the authorized fingerprint-review procedure |
| Court file cannot be accessed publicly | The record may be sealed, confidential or otherwise restricted | Contact the Clerk about legally permitted access |
| Case was prosecuted in another county or federal court | Medina County’s docket covers its own jurisdiction | Search the original court’s official records system |
What if a criminal case was dismissed?
A criminal charge can remain visible in the public court docket even after dismissal, depending on the court’s records and applicable Ohio law.
To establish the legal outcome, inspect the dismissal entry or final judgment instead of treating the original charge as a conviction.
How to correct an inaccurate criminal-history record
Ohio BCI explains that individuals challenging an error in their computerized criminal history should collect supporting evidence and contact the agency that originally reported the disputed information.
Depending on the issue, that may be the arresting agency, prosecutor, Medina County Common Pleas Court, Medina Municipal Court or Wadsworth Municipal Court.
BCI does not maintain all the underlying court documents needed to resolve every dispute. Certified court records may therefore be necessary.
