Court dates and outcomes

Find Galveston Criminal Court Hearing Dates and Case Dispositions

The Odyssey homepage specifically instructs visitors to use Search Hearings for hearing dates and times. A Smart Search result may provide case history, but a separate hearing search helps confirm upcoming scheduled proceedings.

  1. Open Odyssey Portal.

Use the court website rather than a third-party hearing calendar.

  2. Select Search Hearings.

The portal describes this as a search for hearings within a specified date range.

  3. Use the relevant date range and court.

Narrow the search by the court or other fields provided by the portal.

  4. Confirm the case number.

Compare it with the criminal docket to avoid confusing defendants with similar names.

  5. Call the court for essential scheduling matters.

Hearing dates can be reset, canceled or changed. If you are a party or witness, do not rely exclusively on an old online entry.

Galveston County Jail, Arrest Records and Police Reports

When searching for someone who may be in custody, do not start with a court docket alone. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has a separate Police to Citizen (P2C) website with inmate inquiry, arrests, daily bulletins and certain public reports.

Jail Inmate Inquiry

Search by last or first name. Available inmate details may include arrest and release dates, next court date and bond information.

Search county inmates →

Arrest & Police Event Search

Use P2C to review available arrests, incidents, public reports and daily police activity.

Open P2C home →

Sheriff Records Request

For records unavailable online, submit a written request to the Sheriff’s Office Records Division.

Read records instructions →

Galveston County Sheriff’s Office: 601 54th Street, Galveston, TX 77551. General phone: (409) 766-2300. Records inquiries: (409) 766-2320. Jail: 5700 Avenue H, Galveston, TX 77551.

The Sheriff’s Office says records requests can be submitted by email, mail or hand delivery. The published records email is GCSOrecords@co.galveston.tx.us. Some records may be redacted, withheld or subject to charges under Texas public-information law.

Jail record ≠ conviction: A jail booking, bond amount, arrest report or inmate result does not establish guilt. For a final legal outcome, search the filed criminal case and obtain the appropriate disposition from the court.

Texas statewide criminal-history search

Texas DPS Criminal History vs. Galveston Court Records

Texas Department of Public Safety maintains statewide criminal-history information supplied by Texas criminal justice agencies. Its public name-based search is different from Galveston County’s Odyssey case portal.

Galveston Odyssey

  • County criminal case information
  • Court dockets and hearings
  • Charges and disposition entries
  • Case-specific documents where public
  • Not a statewide background check

Texas DPS Criminal History

  • Statewide publicly releasable conviction information
  • Public deferred-adjudication information
  • Name-based record matching
  • Account and search-credit requirements
  • Fingerprint review for identity confirmation

DPS lists a $1 search credit for the name-based online system. Credit-card purchases may involve additional fees. The system searches names and available date-of-birth identifiers and may return more than one possible match.

DPS specifically warns that name-based checks cannot positively establish identity. Fingerprint-based personal review is more reliable for confirming whether a record belongs to a particular person.

09

Official proof and document copies

How to Obtain Certified Galveston Criminal Records

If a court, licensing board, attorney, immigration authority or other recipient asks for a certified copy of a judgment, dismissal or disposition, use the office maintaining the underlying criminal case.

  1. Find the case first.

Search Odyssey and note the cause number, court, parties and case type.

  2. Choose the correct clerk.

Contact the District Clerk for an eligible district felony case or the County Clerk for a county-court misdemeanor.

  3. Describe exactly what you need.

Ask for the certified judgment, disposition, dismissal order, docket sheet or another specific record.

  4. Confirm access and copy charges.

Ask whether the record is public, whether copying and certification fees apply, and which delivery methods are available.

  5. Check names and case details.

Review the certified copy for the correct cause number, court, date and defendant.

Document availability: Not every case document displayed in a portal is available for unrestricted download. A court clerk can advise whether a document is public, electronically available, archived or restricted.

Privacy and responsible use

Expunction, Nondisclosure and Limits on Criminal Record Access

Some Galveston County criminal cases and documents may be restricted because of expunction orders, nondisclosure orders, juvenile confidentiality, sealing, court orders or other Texas laws.

An expunction can require eligible agencies to remove qualifying records. An order of nondisclosure generally limits release of certain criminal-history information to the public but is not identical to an expunction. Eligibility and permitted access depend on the specific legal order and Texas statutes.

Do not assume a missing online search result proves no arrest or criminal case ever occurred. Conversely, do not assume an arrest or criminal charge proves conviction.

Use records carefully

  • Verify case numbers and identities.
  • Distinguish charges from convictions.
  • Read final judgments and amended orders.
  • Check the record’s current status.
  • Do not attempt to obtain sealed material unlawfully.

Employment or tenant screening

  • Review applicable FCRA rules.
  • Use a compliant process where required.
  • Observe applicable consent and notification duties.
  • Avoid wrong-person matches.
  • Do not treat a portal screenshot as a complete background report.
